Diamond Earrings

Earrings date back to 3000 BC.  Discovered by archeologists in Iraq these ancient earrings begin a trend that still continues today.  Depictions of earrings are found in Egyptian tombs and even King Tut is thought to have had elaborately made earrings.  Metal was the only medium for earrings until the 16th century.  At this time in Europe elaborate earrings were styled using many types of stones and pearls.  The rarest of all stones was the diamond and it was rarely used in any sort of jewelry for anyone other then royalty.  Since that era the production of earrings has gone up with their elaborate make and the use of diamonds.

Diamond earrings were first used by European royalty because they were the only ones who had access to such expensive stones.   The trend later followed immigrants to America where the use of diamond earrings was reserved for the rich.  Over time diamonds became more attainable so the use of diamonds became more widespread.  Though trends have changed diamonds have been commonly used for nearly a century in the make of earrings.  Current styles greatly differ from the styles of the past, but the use of the diamond still remains.
