Loose Diamonds

Loose diamonds are often times disregarded because they are not attached to a piece of jewelry.  They are often thought to be fake because often times their origin is unknown.  These diamonds can often be found at yard sales for a very low price.  Other diamonds are passed down from generation to generation and are never used but are displayed, or hidden, as heirlooms.  All of these un-fitted diamonds can be placed in personalized jewelry so they can be worn and admired for many years.

First and foremost you must find out if the loose diamonds you have are real.  This determines if they are worth value, if you are wishing to sell them or pass them down to family then this can be important.  Many jewelers will not place or fit false diamonds in jewelry.  Jewelers can provide the most help in determining the authenticity of your diamond.  Because they work with diamonds every day they are skilled at knowing what to look for.  Many jewelers will also do this at no charge if you plan to fit the diamond to a piece of jewelry at their location.

If your loose diamonds are in fact real diamonds you must choose what piece of jewelry you would like to have them fit to.  Many jewelers will design a personalized piece, or pieces, for your diamonds.  If they are similar in color, shape and cut they can be used in one piece of jewelry.   If they are not similar many jewelers suggest you consider multiple pieces.  Your diamonds can also be fitted to existing pieces of jewelry by any jeweler.  This can come in handy if you have pieces of jewelry with diamonds missing.

Loose diamonds can always be kept loose and never fitted to jewelry.  However, throughout life these diamonds tend to become misplaced.  Don’t take the chance of loosing your diamonds, fitting them to pieces of jewelry allows them to be easily found and passed from generation to generation.
